O'Mei To Re-Open? Will Santa Cruz Patronize A White Supremacist Restaurateur?
O'Mei, a Chinese restaurant in Santa Cruz, CA. closed after it was revealed the owner was a white supremacist who gave $500 to David Duke.
The owner now wants to re-open the restaurant.

O'Mei, a Chinese restaurant on Mission St. in Santa Cruz, California, closed in August after it was revealed that the owner, Roger Grigsby, had donated $500 to the U.S. Senate campaign of white supremacist David Duke of Louisiana.
Roger has been a right-wing gadfly in this liberal town since his UCSC days in the 80's, when he opposed anti-apartheid activists (who wanted University of California to divest from South Africa-related investments in order to bring about pressure to end the racist apartheid system) and misrepresented himself to a progressive professor as a current student in order to gather evidence to "frame" the professor as a biased "Marxist". He also, along the way, bicycled around Taiwan (and wrote a book about it), and founded O'Mei.
Since Roger has had Asian wives/girlfriends and has had friends/employees of color, he claims to not be a racist, but defended his contributions to David Duke and Trump, stating it is simply logical for a white person to support white supporters of white rights. Roger also thinks Jews are responsible for most of the world's woes.
Here's a summary of the events in August and September...
The restaurant has been closed for over a month, after dozens of negative reviews appeared on Yelp and the employees walked out.
This past week, there has been an "Open" sign on the restaurant, although no customers were spotted. There is also a FOR HIRE sign in the window, and their Yelp page proclaims they will re-open officially on November 28, 2017.
Perhaps Roger thinks people in Santa Cruz will have forgotten his white supremacist links in the past month, or that the new students coming to UCSC won't know about the controversy.
I call on all non-racists in Santa Cruz to permanently boycott O'Mei.

It wasn't revealed the owner was a white supremacist who gave $500 to David Duke. It was revealed the owner gave $500 to David Duke. I've already expounded elsewhere on how you're all being used.
Here's the short and sweet:
Roger is a LEFTY HATING LIBERTARIAN, and he is using all of this for publicity, for just the small fee of $500 dollars to some guy who isn't even a libertarian, and he gets to blame all his business troubles on "Lefties" forever after.
All this vilification will do is add to his business from people who never even heard of his over-priced restaurant but hate liberals. Don't worry. He'll get plenty of business from right wingers like Ken at Bene did after he put a BIG SIGN on the outside of his business urging people to vote no on a Santa Cruz minimum wage a decade or so ago. He lost all his union-supporting customers and many college students, but you know? He simply DID NOT give fucks. There's plenty of reactionaries around Santa Cruz, and you know... they have money to dine out.
I'm personally very interested in the relationship between muckraker who brought Grigby's donation to our attention and Grigsby. Did the mucker just happen on the information? Were they targeting Grigsby for some reason, and if so, why?

Now Ken Bothello at Caffe' Bene... He named a 'special coffee blend' a racist moniker to 'celebrate' Obama's election and stated to me quite publicly he doesn't like black people or Mexicans. He reported his Mexican renting neighbors as drug dealers because of 'excessive traffic' and bought a fucking SHOTGUN 'to protect himself'. One day, while I was still working there, a guy went into the shop for coffee and came out a few minutes later stunned. Ken found out he had been a Marine. and wanted to talk guns with the guy, who said "Your boss is nuts. Ive NEVER heard anyone talk about guns like that"...

Razer Ray's remarks are a distraction. It's irrelevant who Roger Grigsby befriends, marries, or otherwise engages with. The point is that he gave money to David Duke, which makes him a supporter of a white supremacist fascist. I sure as shit ain't spending a dime in a restaurant whose owner sends some of his profits to neo-Nazis. Boycott the scumbag. Period.
