benefit for Save Midtown - Midtown Park Apartments Rent Strike!
https://www.facebook.com/savemidtown/
Midtown Park Apartments is a close-knit community of multi-generational Black residents, immigrants, disabled veterans, and seniors fighting rent increases and threats of eviction. In 1968 Midtown Park opened its doors as relocation housing intended to prevent the displacement of these long-time residents of the Western Addition-Fillmore residents. Since its inception residents have been promised equity ownership, however, after paying off the collective mortgage on the buildings, Mayors Office of Housing terminated the lease between Midtown and the City of San Francisco and awarded it to Mercy Housing for permanent management.
In protest, residents began a rent strike while demanding that the City make good on their promise of ownership. Recently, tenants on rent strike received 14 day pay or quit notices, meaning that the threat of eviction for Midtown tenants is more of a reality today than it has been for the past two years of this campaign.
Midtown tenants need your support to stay in their homes and community!
See you on the dancefloor!
The Midtown Support Committee will be tabling this event, so please stop by, make a donation and buy some raffle tickets: $2 each, 3 for $5, 30$ for an arm's length and $40 for a legs length!

About Midtown:
Midtown is fighting the City government's plan to redevelop their apartment complex in San Francisco's historic Fillmore/Western Addition neighborhood. We cooperatively self-managed Midtown for almost 50 years until the Mayor's Office of Housing suddenly terminated our lease in 2013 and brought in nonprofit developer Mercy Housing to squeeze us out. We've been on rent strike since August 2015 and our fight continues.
