The Phillips 66 refinery in Rodeo wants to build a huge oil terminal that would bring more oil tankers into the San Francisco Bay. Stand with your friends and neighbors for clean water & air and get the facts about this project and learn what we can do to stop it.Added to the calendar on Friday Sep 8th, 2017 9:48 AM
According to Ted Goldberg in an article on KQED News, "Phillips 66 wants to more than double the number of oil tankers that travel through San Francisco Bay to unload crude at its refinery in Rodeo.
Currently, 59 ships a year are allowed to make crude oil and gas oil deliveries to the refinery’s marine terminal.
Phillips 66 wants to increase that limit to 135 and to raise the daily average of oil unloaded at the terminal from about 51,000 ba"rrels to 130,000. The company says the extra tanker deliveries would replace crude oil currently delivered by pipeline." - more: https://ww2.kqed.org/news/2017/07/27/phillips-66-seeks-big-increase-in-tanker-traffic-to-rodeo-refinery/
Phillips 66 has admitted that the crude oil brought into the expanded wharf facilty would be different than its existing crude stock. It is highly likely it would be Canadian tar sands - an even greater threat to Bay water contamination, greenhouse gas release and toxic pollution to nearby communities.
This is the time to stand together for clean air, water and soil and to stop new fossil fuel infrastructure projects. Many western states are on fire, and two devastating hurricanes are all made worse by climate disruption. Stand with us!
