Forum "Hurricane Harvey and the Failure of Capitalism"

The immediate cause of the crisis in Texas is record rainfall — in some places over 50 inches. But as with Hurricane Katrina, the crisis has been worsened by a lack of government preparation and cutbacks in vital social programs.

Hurricane Harvey has exposed the government at every level as being unprepared to meet the needs of the people. The fundamental cause of this government failure is the existing capitalist system itself, which is organized to serve the interests corporations and super-rich, not the people.
