Fifty years ago, San Francisco became world famous for the Summer of Love. It was a frightening time to be alive in 1967, and young people from across the country descended upon the City to tune into a love frequency that they hoped would reverberate against the violence and war marring the globe.
Now in 2017, we find ourselves in similarly frightening times, and any social progress we have made in the last fifty, nay, the last 200 years is at risk of being undone. Fascist ideologues have reached the highest levels of authority, and those now descending upon our fair city are fascists, not hippies. Let us remind them that the Summer of Love never ended -- it's just been resting in the fog.
As white supremacists and neo-Nazis gather in our midst, we'll tune into the love frequency again and meet their hatred with flowers for their hair. Bring all the cut flowers you can gather to Crissy Field to distribute among rally attendees. Flower crowns strongly encouraged!! Bring your instruments and sing along! Summertime will be a love-in there...
**If you are unable to attend but would still like to support this project, we will be announcing a florist partner who will be taking flower orders that we will pick up to distribute.
**Given the outcomes of recent white supremacist rallies, it is expected that violence and terrorism will be directed towards peaceful protesters without provocation. Project participants attend the rally at our own risk, and we likely won't be able to rely on law enforcement if we are in danger.
