"In the wake of Mario’s execution, a groundswell of people came together to build a movement in support of Mario's mother, Gwen Woods and all of those who have been impacted by racialized police violence in the Bay Area. In January 2016, the City and County of San Francisco declared July 22nd Mario Woods Remembrance Day and later that year the first ever celebration of Mario’s life was held. It was our work, Justice 4 Mario Woods Coalition, now known as “Wealth and Disparities in the Black Community - Justice 4 Mario Woods,” that made that happen.
Please help ensure a beautiful 2nd Annual Mario Woods Remembrance Day, an inclusive, community-based, family-friendly event.
Every cent spent on this event has been raised by the people, for the people. 100% funded by donations, by foot from local merchants on Third St, neighbors, and by the efforts by Wealth & Disparities in the Black Community - Justice 4 Mario Woods.
Supporting benefits by grassroots volunteers is crucial in a time when city and state officials are silent.
Join Bay Area soul DJs for two fundraisers dedicated to the success of “Mario Woods Remembrance Day.” The funds raised from both of these local events will go towards providing food, entertainment, and to continuing our work towards building citizen awareness and support to the fight for #Justice4MarioWoods and justice for victims of police violence."
