The Conspiracy of Venus, a 30-woman vocal ensemble (the sister group to the all-male Conspiracy of Beards which performs Leonard Cohen’s music), speaks out through its music about political issues from environmentalism to feminism. This special Sunday service will feature songs interspersed with readings. Under the artistic direction of Joyce McBride, the music will range from popular classics such as Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi” and David Bowie’s “Oh You Pretty Things” to edgy contemporary pieces including Bjork’s “Possibly Maybe.” The musical numbers from the group’s repertoire will be interspersed with readings from James Lovelock’s “Gaia Hypothesis” and Brecht’s “Poem in Praise of Doubt.”
Free to the public.
