Capital has its eyes set on the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca as a resource-rich node in the global economy. A proposed network of mega-projects, from mines, to wind turbines, to hydroelectric dams, to oil and gas pipelines, threatens to destroy the health and traditions of local people as well as the already fragile integrity of the region's ecosystems. The talk will look into how this plunder is being carried out as well as what people there, many coming from Zapotec traditions of communality and autonomy, have done to stop its advance.
