Titled after the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, the film explores the intersection between race, justice, mass incarceration and economics in the U.S.
“Neither slavery nor involuntary except as a punishment for servitude, crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” XIII Amend. U.S. Const.
The U.S. prison population is >2.3 million men & women, a disproportionate number of whom are African-American.
