Many people are looking for some way to register their dismay and revulsion on Inauguration Day, Friday, January 20th. Not everyone can participate in a General Strike or in marches and demonstrations. But everyone can gather on their porches, in their buildings, or on their streets and bang their pots to show our vocal opposition to Donald Trump and the incoming Administration.
This event is in keeping with the Latin American tradition, Cacerolazo, of registering protest against the government by banging pots and pans. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cacerolazo
This is a neighborhood action. Indeed, its success will be ensured by people reposting this announcement on social media and by going house to house and involving their neighbors. Here are three leaflets in English, Spanish and Chinese that can be handed out to neighbors to encourage their participation. http://bit.ly/bang-the-pots-english http://bit.ly/suena-las-cazuelas-espanol https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_WyK5qSTPBFclN0c3BTLWR0RlU/view
Six o’clock p.m. local time, Friday, January 20, 2017 has been chosen with the idea of maximizing the numbers of people who can take part in Bang a Pot, Raise A Din. This equal access, decentralized action could well be continued on an ongoing basis: this is just the beginning.
