by R. Robertson
Thursday Nov 3rd, 2016 9:19 PM
To show support for Native American activists at Standing Rock opposing the Dakota Access Pipeline, an alliance of South Bay and SF Peninsula activists, including students, teachers, and concerned community members, held a protest in front of two of the banks providing major funding for the pipeline: Citibank and Wells Fargo. The protest started at a Citibank location in Mountain View, then demonstrators marched to the Wells Fargo branch on San Antonio and El Camino. The marchers called on both banks to divest from the pipeline project.

The protest started at a Citibank location in Mountain View, then demonstrators marched to the Wells Fargo branch on San Antonio and El Camino.

The activists called upon both banks to divest from the pipeline project. A dozen Raging Grannies helped round out a total of close to 100 demonstrators. The protest was organized by the newly formed Alliance in Solidarity with Standing Rock.

Earlier this week in San Francisco, police arrested twelve people who were protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline at Citibank headquarters in the city. Protesters filled the street outside the building at 1 Sansome St. They went into the lobby carrying signs including one that read “Citi Don’t Fund Dakota Access.” They were arrested in the bank lobby for trespassing.
