FILM SHOWING & DISCUSSION, "BLACK POWER SALUTE"
2008 film directed by Geoff Small
At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, two Black athletes, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, thrust their fists in the air on the victory stand in a powerful symbolic gesture against the oppression of Black people and people everywhere. Times have changed, but the system is still in force. We need a revolution. We need to learn from the anger and defiance of what they did, the refusal to accept oppression, the daring to step on the biggest stage.
