Protecting Your People: From Flint to San Jose
Join CHAM Deliverance Ministry, Women's Economic Agenda Project, Silicon Valley Debug, San Jose Silicon Valley NAACP, and Working Partnerships USA for a teach-in with Claire McClinton of the Flint Democracy Defense League. Ms. McClinton is the retired auto worker and lifelong resident of Flint, Michigan featured in the recent ACLU documentary "Here's to Flint" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7ULFSaMooA&feature=youtu.be) seen on Democracy Now. She will speak about her experiences fighting for the lives of the people of Flint poisoned by the corporate dictatorship imposed by Michigan's Emergency Manager law. We should not think it could not happen to us, or happen here. The miserable treatment of service workers and low-income communities in Silicon Valley is exactly similar to the evils done to the people of Michigan, by the same kind of corporations and for the same reasons. One example is San Jose City Council's recent refusal to honor the desperate demands of its people for significant rent relief. Those that the system has no use for, it discards and sacrifices with the most shocking and callous disregard for the value of human life. It is time for all of us to say (along with the unjustly imprisoned Rev. Edward Pinkney of Benton Harbor, Michigan): Enough is enough! Speaking: - Keynote: Claire McClinton from Flint Democracy Defense League and Speakers for a New America - Leaders from Silicon Valley Renters Rights Coalition, Silicon Valley Rising, and Women's Economic Agenda Project - CHAM Mercy Mobile Gets Help and Takes Supplies with Strength to Homeless on Streets of San Jose, CA |
