Movie Showing: FIXIT, Healthcare at the Tipping Point
Wednesday April 27, 6:30 PM
Centro del Pueblo, 474 Valencia St. SF
(between 15th & 16th St, 16th St. BART)

San Francisco's first showing of the healthcare movie "FIXIT, Healthcare at the Tipping Point" will occur April 27 in the Mission District. This new movie shows how for-profit healthcare is eating this economy alive, with tragic results to individuals and society. It also shows how covering everyone with an improved version of Medicare (single-payer healthcare) is an answer to providing everyone with equal, comprehensive, accessible healthcare that is affordable to both individuals and society.

FIXIT is being presented on April 27 in almost a dozen California cities and towns as part of campaign to win Medicare-for-All in California through a ballot initiative in 2020. The San Francisco showing will have representatives of nurses, seniors, labor organizers, youths, and Latin and Asian communities, who will briefly comment on their perspectives, and who will be on hand during a period for audience comments and questions.

Overcoming the money and influence of the insurance companies, drug manufacturers, and hospital chains will be a huge job, needing millions of Californians. A significant number of community groups and unions are already involved in this campaign but many more will be needed to win truly universal healthcare. The movie FIXIT is an important step in this direction.

Any serious single payer or socialized medicine proposition on the California ballot, a state with 38 MILLION people, of whom 13 MILLION vote in the presidential general election, e.g. November 2020, MUST be promoted with daily TV ads at prime time for ONE MONTH before election day because we start voting by mail 30 days before election day and because the insurance companies will be doing daily TV ads at prime time ONE MONTH before election day. That means the organizations, especially the labor unions, must be committed to paying for prime time TV ads for 30 days before election day. IN ADDITION, these same organizations must pay for BILLBOARDS throughout the State of California, especially in the heavily populated coastal counties and must pay for MAILERS to all regular voters, both vote-by-mail and vote at the poll voters, for the entire 30 days before election day. The organizations supporting this health proposition must also be committed to paying for BILLBOARDS and MAILERS. Finally, you must have a strong 58-county phone banking system ON ELECTION DAY, pushing likely supporters, e.g. union members, to the polls.
