Over 1200 men and women were killed by police in 2015! Black, Latino, and Native American were especially targeted. We see one video after another. Execution style murders; torture and death by taser; people killed walking away from police; people who are homeless on skid row... in their cars during traffic stops... handcuffed in a police cruiser... standing on the street doing nothing wrong... handicapped in wheelchairs... having mental episodes and in need of help... and children as young as six years old: all MURDERED by police... And, time after time, cops are exonerated, usually never charged, and in the rare case they are charged, the police are protected by the prosecutors and the entire system – giving a green light for more murderous assaults.
Lives Stolen! Families devastated! This is unconscionable! It is criminal for a system to do to its people! It must be STOPPED!
And we are calling on the students of San Francisco State to play a major part in stopping it.
On March 10th, the “No More Stolen Lives Tour “ will give voice to the families of loved ones killed by police; families who have been dragged into this fight when a loved one was slain by law enforcement. They suffer further outrage and cruelty when the authorities rule the murder “justified” and having their loved one demonized and lied about the police and press! These family members can bring alive the devastation murder by police is inflicting on too many families in too many communities. They will put before people that police getting away with murder is an epidemic – widespread and systemic - and that Police Terror Must Be STOPPED! They will challenge students - Which Side Are You On?
The “No More Stolen Lives Tour “ will include other voices as well - the formerly incarcerated and families of people in prisons and immigrant detention centers, whose lives have also been stolen. We will hear from students, revolutionaries, activists and other people of conscience who are determined to build a movement of millions in powerful mass resistance to a system which murders thousands and locks up millions. And they are calling on you to join them!
Students have, historically, played a crucial role against major social outrages. In the 60’s and ‘70’s, the determined struggles of students, including here at San Francisco State, were part of a massive upsurge against injustice that rocked the whole system back on its heels. This needs to happen NOW to STOP police terror!
