HIDDEN GEMS FILM CLUB: NOT YOUR ORDINARY FILM CLUB!

The Santa Cruz Public Libraries invite you to an afternoon of cinema. Come and enjoy those "hidden gems" of foreign films, documentaries, independents and even perhaps some mainstream movies that you might have missed! The club will meet on the 1st Sundays of each month, from February to August.

*****BYOL: You are welcome to BRING YOUR OWN LUNCH while enjoying the films! *****

For March, we will be discussing and seeing two American independent films:

Both films are presented by the kind permission of their respective directors (Claire Weissbluth "Lonche" and Alex Rivera "Sleep Dealer") and we are grateful for their support.

"Lonche" (Spanish and English, with subtitles in both) - a 20 minute documentary filmed in Watsonville and various parts of Silicon Valley - the tale of two taco trucks. Film festivals across the nation and beyond have embraced this doc, including local festivals: Reel Work (2014) and the Watsonville Film Festival (2015).

"Sleep Dealer" (Spanish with English subtitles) by Alex Rivera, is a Sundance-Award winning, 90 minute American independent feature film. It is the story of a young man's struggle to make his way in the world. See the film that leverages science fiction concepts to challenge Hollywood's ideas of the future - for individuals, society and the environment.
