SF Housing Activists Protest Displacement at Super Bowl Site

Evictions for profit - “legal” and illegal - continue at an unrelenting pace despite several years of attempts at measures to resolve the problem. The reported $50 million dollars given away in expenses and diverted city services could immediately house 500 homeless people. Groups included Eviction Free San Francisco, Plaza 16 Coalition and a new group SOS–San Francisco which popped up to spotlight the current rash of artist evictions. SEIU 1021 and other labor unions led a parallel rally and march to spotlight abusive labor conditions for football stadium workers.

Issues protested the past two weeks include housing, labor, police murders and abuses of blacks and Latinos, and homelessness. Downtown has been like a police state, against all SF residents to "protest and serve football tourists. Streets are shut down for residents, with Homeland police armed with all kinds of weaponry. Muni stations are patrolled with a heavy handed approach. Homeless people have been pushed out of downtown to remote SOMA locations to make way for wealthy partiers and big money political propaganda.

Homeland Security is leading this state of affairs. Since the Patriot Act and related measures, anything interfering with economic development (i.e. private corporations) is terrorism. The SuperBowl climate is about the same as if an Occupy demonstration or anti-globilization protest. San Franciscans continue loud, confrontational demands to our completely unresponsive government.
