The 16th Annual Cesar Chavez Youth Leadership will include keynote speeches, career and college readiness workshops, Live Cultural Entertainment including Mariachi's, Aztec Dancers, Ballet Folklorico de Alma de UC Davis, and a Pow Wow in the Quad, free breakfast and lunch and free parking at UC Davis on Saturday, April 9, 2016 This FREE Cesar Chavez Youth Leadership Conference & Celebration includes presentations / workshops for students, parents and community leaders, a lunchtime celebration with cultural performers and music and college recruiters. A FREE Breakfast is at 8:00 a.m.inside the ARC Pavilion at UC Davis and a FREE lunch is at 1:30 p.m. An on-going UC Davis Pow Wow will also be in the Quad. The goal of the Youth Leadership Conference is to increase the number of high school students and younger grades to pursue careers in math, science, engineering and education. The Youth Leadership Conference is named after Cesar Chavez - a Chicano civil rights leader of farm workers. The Youth Leadership Conference is designed to inspire and to encourage youth to continue their education, to expose youth to successful role models in a wide variety of occupations, to raise self-esteem and empower all participants in making positive decisions, and to establish a network of role models that can provide support and encouragement. Parents are encouraged to attend parent involvement training sessions. The Youth Conference will be a unique forum for students, parents and community to exchange knowledge through a full day of fun and learning. The presenters will include business leaders and representatives from academia, community based organizations, public and private organizations focusing on college and career readiness workshops. A Welcome will begin at 9am. Many college and universities will provide entry requirements, financial aid and scholarship information during the College Resource Fair. The conference targets 6th to 12th graders but all grades, parents, community college transfer students and community members are encouraged to attend! A free Conference T-Shirt will be given out to the Youth that attend. Parking will be free and you can park on Orchard Rd. off LaRue Rd. right off Russell and Highway 113. All participants and vendors please report to the ARC Pavilion by 7:30 am if possible. All School District Buses and Vans will be directed to drop off students behind the Pavilion along La Rue. Campus Tours will be scheduled in the morning and afternoon and if you are interested in being part of the Conference Planning Committee or participating as a college recruiter, workshop presenter, vendor, sponsor, performer or student or community volunteer please contact event organizer Rene Aguilera at rene.aguilera2020@gmail.com or call him at 916-271-1375. From Sacramento - take Interstate 80 West to Highway 113 North. Exit on Russell Blvd. and turn right on Russell Blvd. Make a right on LaRue Rd and left on Orchard and the ARC / Pavilion will be the structure on your left.
