Holiday Gift for Free Radio Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz Progressives, This Holiday Season, Free Radio Santa Cruz, (101.3 FM & http://www.freakradio.org) is wishing for a new studio. Since October we have been homeless, but not helpless. We continue on the air using a remote server, but for programmers who don't have the means to produce their shows remotely, this has been a trying time.
Free Radio Santa Cruz needs a studio that is small, from 80 to 150 square feet, with electricity, internet and phone access (we can install this), and access to a bathroom. The studio location needs to be reasonably close to bus lines in the area from the West Side to Aptos. Most of all, the new studio needs to be affordable - we operate on a very limited budget. Best of all, if you find us a studio that we are able to rent for at least a year, we can offer you a Holiday Present of $500.
Free Radio Santa Cruz is a collectively run, community supported, DIY project liberating the airwaves of Santa Cruz since 1995. We present locally produced programs along with an eclectic selection of independently produced shows from around the world. We are the only station currently airing "Democracy Now!" in the Santa Cruz area twice a day! - and the first to do so in Santa Cruz back in 2001. We are the only station locally to present progressive news and analysis programs in Spanish, including the award winning "Informativo Pacifica," produced at KPFK in Los Angeles.
FRSC does not accept commercials, underwriting or grants from commercial, for-profit companies. We are totally supported by our programmers, listeners, and the community. We don't harass our listeners with pledge drives. We do ask for your support, especially at this time when we need a studio.
Free Radio Santa Cruz has received 2 awards from the Santa Cruz City Council for our service to the community and an award from the Resource Center for Non-violence for our innovative programing. FRSC was founded by activists for Food Not Bombs, Cop Watch, and other radical progressive groups to provide a forum for news, issues and ideas that are not covered on commercial radio, including NPR (whose underwriters include ADM, Dow, and GE, among others!).
Send your proposed studio location to frsc [at] freakradio.org
Your reward could be better radio in Santa Cruz (and $500).

Thanks in advance,
