Whistleblowers stand with Sterling at press conference
Jesselyn Radack, Thomas Drake and Ray McGovern joined Holly Sterling in a press conference where they jointly asked president Obama to issue a pardon for her imprisoned husband, Jeffrey, the alleged source for James Risen's book State of War. Complete video and audio attached at end.
The White privilege Card - never leave home without one.
Former CIA agent Jeffrey Sterling lacks the "white privilege" one needs for a "get out of jail free" card, His case stands as a sharp contrast to that of General David Petraeus, who admitted to felony breeches of the Espionage Act and was given a plea bargain with no jail time.
On it's face, this send a bad message and should move President Obama to pardon Jeffrey Sterling, who has raised claims of discrimination against the CIA in the past, but his case was thrown out of court on national security grounds.
Sterling was convicted by metadata, as Ray McGovern noted. All the evidence against him was circumstantial. It is known that he talked to a journalist, and that journalist wrote a book.
The entire press conference is attached. The event was greeted with a complete news blackout, though the press release appeared in various business journals. As Al-Jazeera notes, selective prosecution of leaks threatens democracy, but selective prosecution by race is a evil the United States has been slow to transcend.
