Cal State U. faculty to mark start of a Strike Vote with Picketlines, Theater, Rallies
by via California Faculty Association
Monday Oct 19th, 2015 8:03 PM
A Strike Authorization Vote by the faculty who teach in the 23-campus California State University system begins online and in person at 9 am on Monday, October 19. The vote continues through 5 pm October 28.

As members of the California Faculty Association turn out to vote in person on Monday, local campus and statewide leaders of CFA will be on hand to speak with members of the news media. Various public events also are scheduled throughout the first week of voting.

CFA President Jennifer Eagan said, “After years of stagnant faculty wages, the faculty on our public university campuses are angry and we are ready for this strike vote. We all know that the Chancellor’s 2% is simply not enough to make teaching in the CSU sustainable.”

Faculty have dubbed the push to improve faculty earnings the “Fight for Five” — meaning a 5% general salary Increase.

Talks on salary in the second year of the contract stalled, went to mediation and, earlier this month, were certified to the final stage in the “statutory” bargaining process known as factfinding. Cal State University management clings to an offer of 2%.

Eagan said, “We work hard to provide quality education for our students, but we also need to support our families. Education is a road to the middle class for our students, and teaching CSU students certainly should secure a middle class living for the faculty. The status quo is simply not good enough.”

ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA FACULTY ASSOCIATION: CFA represents the approximately 25,000 tenured and tenure-track faculty, lecturers (adjuncts), librarians, counselors and coaches on the 23 campuses of the California State University system, from Humboldt State in the north, to San Diego State in the south.
