·At Sunday's Oct. 11th, 11am - 1pm Community Drum Call, we will further spell out our goals and objectives. We are going to WIN this fight but its going to take ALL of us working together.
SOUL OF OAKLAND UPDATE!
There's been some confusion growing in the Town around the #SoulofOakland movements and events.
Point of Clarity:
1) There is only one #SoulofOakland movement. We have a platform, strategy coordination, community engagement and drums.
2) We have contacted the various organizers of Lake protest events scheduled for the upcoming weekends and are building the appropriate coalitions.
3) Our goals are:
- To make changes in the city of Oakland's public space usage policies
- To preserve and protect Oakland's cultural heritage including spiritual and religious institutions
- To highlight and expand the city's artistic and cultural imprint
- To aid in the development of better policing policies that support the livelihoods and longevity of Oakland's black, brown and other communities of color.
(Partial list: Full platform to be revealed soon)
#SoulofOakland members have been meeting with Oakland city officials, city staffers, OPD captains, clergy, community leaders and local cultural artists to solve the problems and relieve the frustrations that many of us have regarding the newly enforced policies of Lake Merritt, noise complaints about churches and the protection of artists.
Our 1st political action was a public drum rally and open forum address at City council. Thanks to the community, it was very successful. We are looking forward to working with the appropriate stakeholders in solving some of Oakland's problems. We have just learned that erroneous, outdated signage prohibiting even non-amplified musical instruments at the Lake will be removed TODAY.
At Sunday's Oct. 11th, 11am - 1pm Community Drum Call, we will further spell out our goals and objectives. We are going to WIN this fight but its going to take ALL of us working together.
Let's make OAKLAND the shining beacon and winning example for the whole country to see. YOU can stop the wheels of gentrification and influence civic policy for the betterment of the community and for the end to destruction of our diverse artistic and cultural heritages. Soul of Oakland
We started this official Facebook page for that purpose. https://m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1720783861474501
