Description:
DOLLAR DEMOCRACY: WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR SOME; HOW TO RECLAIM THE AMERICAN DREAM FOR ALL? A presentation by Political Science Professor, Radio Host and Political Analyst PETER MATHEWS on the TPP and the People's Movement to take back our food.Where: SF Main Public Library, 100 Larkin St. SF. CA 94102 (located near Civic Center Bart Station)
About Peter's Work: DOLLAR DEMOCRACY: WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR SOME; HOW TO RECLAIM THE AMERICAN DREAM FOR ALL?
"These political leaders have voted for corporate tax loopholes, tax cuts on the super wealthy and multinational corporations (the 1%), deregulation of Big Business, and have cut spending on valuable social programs for the middle class and poor (99% of Americans). These corporate sponsored politicians have: outsourced our jobs to low wage countries (while supporting NAFTA, WTO, TPP, TTIP, and other "free trade" agreements without labor and environmental protections); increased the gap between rich and poor enormously while shrinking the middle class; crashed the economy and Wall Street and brought on the Great Recession, from which the majority have not recovered; dismantled public schools and colleges for the 99%; blocked comprehensive, universal, affordable health care; helped corporations destroy our environment for immediate profits; enabled corporations to sicken us with GMOs (genetically modified foods), pesticides, chemicals, and corporate Agribusiness farming, against the best interests of organic family farming, and the American (and world) public; and as part of the "Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex" these corporate sponsored politicians promoted waste, fraud, and abuse in the military/defense/national security budget ($1 trillion, which is equal to the defense budgets of all the 194 nations of the rest of the world combined). By their actions they have destroyed the American Dream for the Middle Class and Working Poor.
WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE
The book is optimistic that we can, and must change, direction by galvanizing a massive peaceful social movement, led by ordinary Americans, to take power back from super wealthy multinational corporations, their owners, and their bought politicians who serve them.
