Muwekma Farm Destoyed by City of Oakland and OPD
After the garden was destroyed, it began to rain.
The Muwekma Farm is located on the corner of 31st and International, across the street from the Native American Health Center. For the past two months, various supporters have planted over 50 plants, including squash, tomatoes, jalapenos, kale, huckleberry, oregano, and arugula. On Thursday, July 9th, the combined forces of the City of Oakland and the OPD descended on the farm and destroyed every single plant, raised bed, and bench. They even destroyed the few plants that remained along the edges of the land. The farm was located on 1.5 acres of land owned by the City of Oakland. Despite the clear and blatant support of the neighborhood, the powers that be decided they did not want fresh fruit and vegetables growing on International.
There will be a more thorough report on the farm and details about upcoming actions to retake the land.

Muwekma Farm
