July 4 Protest Of IAM District 190/Local 1584 Mechanics To Stop Union Busting At Nissan Dealership In Concord "No Technicians without Representation"

Greetings Sisters and Brothers in the Labor Movement,

Here is a reminder about the action IAM Local 1173 is having this Fourth of July Weekend in Concord. Details about this weekend's action can found below, along with an attached Flyer and a message from Lead Negotiator, Area Director of IAM Local 1173 and President of the Contra Costa CLC, Steve Older.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could please forward this information to your Delegates, members and affiliated parties.

A message from Steve Older, Lead Negotiator in this Contract Fight...

Just as our nation is being sold off to multinational corporations with the secret TPP trade deal, the same thing is happening in your own back yard. The international Autocom Corporation is buying up Nissan dealerships all across the Bay Area. So far, Concord, Walnut Creek, Oakland and San Leandro have been purchased by the largest dealership group in Mexico. When they bought Concord Nissan, they appeared to be unaware the unionized workforce they inherited would remain Union and Autocom would be required to bargain a new contract. Once they discovered this truth, Autocom, with the help of Nissan Corporation, pushed a good owner out of San Leandro Nissan and fired virtually the entire Union workforce, eliminating the requirement to deal with the Union there.

Seventeen months later, we still have no contract at Concord Nissan. The workers were promised they would keep everything they had. This has not happened. Autocom will not agree to the basic fundamental values of trade unionism and collective action. Just as our founding fathers though collective action, threw off the yoke of a tyrannical foreign power, Join us 4th of July for our “ No Technicians without Representation” Rally to declare our solidarity and independence from tyranny in the workplace!
