by Marcia Gomes de Oliveira
The Brazilian born International Uranium Film Festival is a global festival dedicated to films about all nuclear issues like uranium mining, nuclear power plants, atomic bombs, radioactive accidents, uranium weapons and atomic waste: Now we want to bring this unique atomic film festival to California.

Art, film and nuclear awareness: The Brazilian born International Uranium Film Festival is a global festival dedicated to films about nuclear energy, from uranium mining to nuclear power plants, atomic bombs, radioactive accidents, uranium weapons and atomic waste. It is a film festival about the nuclear age from Hiroshima to Fukushima.

Since 2011 we organize the festival every year in Rio de Janeiro's Modern Art Museum Cinema (MAM Rio). But we also aim to establish Uranium Film Festivals in other countries and cities. The festival has been already for example in New York City, Washington DC, Santa Fe, Window Rock, in New Delhi and Mumbai, in Munich and Berlin.

Now we want to bring the festival for the first time to California! To make it happen we need local supporters and partners.

The challenge of the Uranium Film Festival is to bring important films about the nuclear question to the big screen, to stimulate the production of new nuclear films and to stimulate the public discussion about use and risks of nuclear power.  The horror of atomic bombs and those who suffered from them, and nuclear accidents like Chernobyl or Fukushima should never be forgotten - nor repeated. "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it (George Santayana)."

The legal organizer of the Festival is the non-profit arts and cultural organization “Arquivo Amarelo“, based in Rio de Janeiro and registered as Brazilian charity. The festival depends on individual donors and sponsors.
