Testify Against Berkeley Police (#BlackLivesMatter Inquiry)

Date:
Wednesday, June 10, 2015
Time:
7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Event Type:
Meeting
Organizer/Author:
Location Details:
2939 Ellis St, (intersection at Ashby Ave.)
South Berkeley Senior Center

On May 27th, the Berkeley police chief did not make a scheduled appearance to turn over the BPD's report on their response to the December #BlackLivesMatter protests.

There is an ongoing inquiry into the use of batons, projectile weapons, and tear gas. (Interestingly, the city manager has announced resignation in the midst of this inquiry and will be working in an advisory position with the city of Oakland).

The Berkeley police review commission needs more testimony from the public, so more pressure can be put on the police to explain their actions and turn over their report.

Public testimony also puts pressure on the review commission itself, to hold the Berkeley police accountable.

Testimony against police actions would be made during public comment. Public comment is at the beginning at the meeting and at the end. Any person who speaks during the start of the meeting can also speak again at the end, to make clarifying points or add more information. You do not have to identify yourself during public comment.

After the first round of public comment, the review commission will continue its inquiry in public view, asking the police chief questions in public view. Cameras and other recording equipment are permitted; this is a public meeting and can be recorded.

Bring food for yourself, these meetings go from 7PM to 10PM.

This meeting of the police review commission has been expanded by 1 hour, and will begin at 6PM, not 7PM. This is a recently announced change. The meeting will be held at the same place, the south Berkeley senior center.
