Butterfly Town - A film about community activism … and butterflies
Change happens, one person, one community at a time
Film screening and discussion with Producer/Director Dorothy Fadiman
Post-film panelists
MARTHA NITZBERG, Park Ranger, Natural Bridges State Beach, Santa Cruz
MEGHAN FRALEY, ALISON HICKS - Activists, Raise the Wage Coalition
ZACH MILLER - Environmental Organizer and Advocate
PAUL GEORGE - Director, Peninsula Peace and Justice Center
Butterfly Town USA follows a community in Pacific Grove, California, working to protect the Monarch Grove Sanctuary, an urban preserve located near the city center.
Internal disagreements about how to best take care of this beautiful habitat are escalating at a time when climate change, deforestation, and pesticides are decimating the milkweed plants that Monarchs need to survive and impacting the Monarch population in general.
We watch, as change happens one person, one community at a time. The citizens of Pacific Grove inspire us with their activism, which is motivated by their love for Monarch Butterflies.
Dorothy Fadiman has been producing films for 35 years. She is the founder of Concentric Media, based in Menlo Park. Her awards include an EMMY, an OSCAR nomination, and a GOLD MEDAL from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. In addition to producing over 20 films, Dorothy teaches, gives seminars, leads workshops, and trains interns in filmmaking.
