Pearl River conference
3 minute piece on american river endangered river nomination pearl river
Listen now:
American Rivers has named the Pearl River among “America’s Most Endangered Rivers” of 2015 because of a project to dam the river near Jackson, Mississippi.
The project would restrict the flow of freshwater, jeopardizing threatened species of wildlife, lowering oyster populations, and adversely affecting fishing industries in Mississippi and Louisiana.
At a press conference at Honey Island Swamp Tours in Slidell, the Gulf Restoration Network’s Helene Rose Patterson discusses the negative impacts of damming the pearl.
