2/6 SF Opening Of "Fight The Power" Exhibition- "FIGHT THE POWER: Exploring similarities in the lived and photographed expressions of Black American and Palestinian resistance movements against ethnic persecution" by Jeff Blankfort

Dear friends and companeros,

You are invited to attend the opening of "Fight the Power," an exhibit of photographs that I took of the Black Panthers in the Sixties and of Palestinians in Lebanon, Jordan and Occupied Palestine between 1970 and 2004 that will take place in the Sargent Johnson Gallery on the ground floor of the African American Art and Cultural Complex, 762 Fulton between Webster and Buchanan in San Francisco from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, February 6th and run through the end of the month.

That will be followed by a panel discussion in the AAACC theater at 8PM dealing with the struggles of both peoples and how they relate to one another, a connection that came to the forefront in Ferguson, Missouri, in the wake of the murder of Michael Brown by a local policeman, the government's militarized response to the protests that followed, and Israel's war on Gaza during the summer. It will feature Former Black Panther Billy X Jennings, Lara Kiswani, Executive Director of the Arab Resource Organizing Center, Dr. Rama Kased, ED.D Educational Leadership, and Mohammed Bilal, Executive Director of the African American Art and Culture Complex

Whether or not you can make it to the opening, I hope you get a chance to see the exhibit. I would also appreciate you circulating this invitation to your own mailing lists. In the meantime you might enjoy taking a look through my website at http://www.jeffblankfortphotography.com.

In solidarity,

Jeff Blankfort
