SHUT IT DOWN FOR MIKE BROWN
GO HARDER FOR ERIC GARNER

This protest is in solidarity with the people of Ferguson, Staten Island NY, and all across the country demanding justice for Mike Brown and Eric Garner and an end to police violence.

The City of Alameda is an island city running parallel to Oakland. Alameda Police is widely known for racial profiling. The city is also notorious for housing discrimination and racial inequality in education.

Join us for a nonviolent action to declare Black Lives Matter. This peaceful, disruption at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will shut it down for Mike Brown and remember all the stolen lives lost to police terrorism.

Rally: Saturday, Dec. 6, 5 pm at Santa Clara Ave & Oak St at Alameda City Hall.
For more info: call (510) 520-6519.

Do I believe black lives matter? of course I do! Do I believe ALL lives matter? You betcha! But when all is said and done I also very strongly believe that there is a time and a place to voice your concerns and staging a protest, complete with a flyer of a flaming Christmas tree for an event that really is aimed at local children (like my 2 year old stepdaughter) is wholly inappropriate. Why try to ruin a children's Christmas event? There are far better ways to get your message across and handle these very real issues without spoiling something else.

When protests are done well, they have impact, they raise awareness...but when a protest is done poorly, as disrupting a Christmas tree lighting ceremony attended by small children, you work against your own cause and become the face of 'idiots trying to wreck things" rather than being a person working for change.

I urge you and your group to rethink this ill advised action and try to stop it before you damage your own cause. Hurting children and spoiling their evening doesn't make you anything more than a petty thug, and that is exactly how it will play if you move forward.

If you really want to make a statement why not do a die-in at Walnut Creek's Broadway Plaza? Shutting down a tree lighting in Alameda is just lame.
