Who would think of combining a traditional flamenco song, "Malaguena," with a 1960's song by Rosemary Clooney? Caminos Flamencos dives into this entirely fresh and original production of "Canciones" with a new repertoire that revives their concept of musical exploration using the passionate language of flamenco in the genres of pop, soul and alternative music, all the while with an eye towards their ultimate goal: expression and duende.

Sunday, November 30th, 3pm
Tickets: $20-$75

Yaelisa & Caminos Flamencos are delighted to announce the revival of one of their most popular programs, "Canciones," featuring flamenco dance set to traditional and popular songs. Guest artists Marina Elana, Manuel Gutierrez and Jesus Montoya join the ensemble in interpretations of music by Ray Charles, Leonard Cohen, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, The Police and many more. "Canciones" runs for only two performances over Thanksgiving weekend, November 29-30, 2014.

This November’s performances mark the third incarnation of Canciones, which premiered at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in 2008. The flexible program has featured different songs each time, but what remains the same is a refreshing approach to the conventions of flamenco. Canciones offers audiences iconic flamenco songs – for example, Paco de Lucia’s “La Leyenda del Tiempo” – as well as flamenco interpretations of songs such as Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."
