Liverpool Dockers Solidarity with ILWU Local 10 and Oakland Community Picket of ZIM Ships
by Longshoreman's Daughter
Tuesday Sep 30th, 2014 12:21 AM
Following the successful blockade of the Zim Shanghai at the Port of Oakland on Saturday, September 27, Liverpool dockworkers both past and present sent the following statement of solidarity to ILWU Local 10 longshore workers, for refusing to cross community picket lines against the Israeli-owned ZIM ships.

All day Saturday the Zim Shanghai was prevented from doing business in the Bay Area and sent back out to sea with all its cargo untouched. For several days in August another ZIM ship, the Zim Piraeus, was also prevented from unloading most of its cargo by community picket lines that longshore workers refused to cross.

Re: Message of Solidarity.

The Liverpool Dockworkers both past and present salute the actions of Local 10 and the Oakland Community Picket, taken against the Israeli government controlled Zim Line vessels. Furthermore their magnificent actions strike a blow against the Israel apartheid regime for their continued massacre and destruction of Gaza.

For far too long people in power have turned a blind eye to the Israeli slaughter of innocent Palestinian men, women and children, now we are seeing the labour and trade union movement in Oakland fighting back, and their actions must be supported by port and dockworkers the world over.

If we can be of any immediate help in terms of publicity or campaigning please let me know.

In Solidarity,

TERRY TEAGUE. (DOCKS, WATERWAYS & FERRIES OFFICER.)
