Anti-Apartheid Group Announces Campaign to Block Zim Ships to Oakland

by GA Gaza (stopzimattheportofoakland)
We are people of Oakland who hate apartheid, racism and genocide in all its forms. We were inspired by the historic actions that occurred on August 16th and afterward that delayed the Zim Piraeus for five days, eventually forcing it to leave after unloading only a fraction of the cargo destined for our city’s port.
We seek to aid and augment the actions by the organizations and individuals that took to the streets to block the Zim Piraeus in August. Our goal is to support and enhance efforts to ensure Zim stops doing business at the Port of Oakland.
Stop Zim, Stop Apartheid: Anti-Apartheid Group Announces Campaign to Block Zim Ships Until They Stop Sailing to Oakland

On August 16th, a new movement began in Oakland with the goal of doing what Western governments have failed to do in the face of Israeli atrocities for decades. Block the Boat rose up to sanction Israel for war crimes after its murder of thousands of Palestinians, many of them children and women, during Israel’s latest attack on Gaza. The huge crowd that appeared on August 16th at the Port of Oakland of every race, nationality and class of people that live in this city showed that Americans are tired of US support and financing of Israeli war crimes, paid for with US tax dollars.

On Sunday September 21st, we are announcing an unrelenting campaign of non-violent community resistance against Zim’s apartheid ships. Whenever a Zim ship arrives at the port, we will be there to picket. We are going to block every Zim ship. We will do it non-violently, through pickets with community/labor solidarity. We will demonstrate passion and integrity in our quest for peace and justice, so that there is no doubt in the minds of port workers who is on the right side of history. We will be at the port on ANY day of the week or time of year. We will be there when Zim reschedules. When Zim delays. When Zim sails to other Berths. Zim can’t outwait us or outrun us.
