BART Police Officer Slams Woman to Floor, Incident Captured on Video
09.15.14 - Shocking video captured during an arrest aboard a BART train last week shows an officer slamming a woman to the floor.
According to BART, at about 9:30 p.m. last Wednesday, operators reported that a black female suspect was acting erratically and was banging on train windows. The woman was attempting to force open the doors of trains by pulling the doors apart as the trains left the station.
In cell phone video posted to YouTube by user Kareem Muslim, the woman can be heard screaming “Let me go!” The video’s description says the woman was on the train sleeping when a cop approached.
“She got up 2 exit the train very calmly and the cop aggressively slammed,” Muslim writes in the description.
The woman was taken into custody for public intoxication and resisting arrest. Paramedics at the scene believed she was under the influence of alcohol and methamphetamine, BART said.
The woman was medically cleared at County Hospital and then booked at the Martinez Detention Facility.
According to BART, the incident caused a 13 minute delay in service.
