by khubaka, michael harris
Urban Agriculture remains a viable job creator, career path and catalyst for community economic development. Preparation for design methodology for the US Census of Agriculture 2017 will include a unique pilot project, California Pan African Urban Agriculture Project

Urban Agriculture provides a new way for international, national, state, county and local public policy to align towards better health outcomes with access to clean water and nutritious fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes.

Every 30 seconds an African child dies from lack of access to clean water, imagine partnering the commitment to provide safe, sustainable water to rural African villages with providing Pan African agricultural education and production to food insecure residents throughout inner city America.

Urban Agriculture, embracing the cultural transformation within the United States Department of Agriculture, is the vehicle for a new way forward, healing what is hurting our communities... globally.

From the heart of the "Greatest Garden in the World" the notion of providing access to clean water and food security would seem natural, however reality is very different.

In Washington D.C., less than 5 miles from our Nation's Capitol... poverty and food insecurity is seen... in Sacramento, California, less than 5 miles from the State Capitol... poverty and food insecurity is seen... at the base of the challenge is ongoing impacts from "America's Peculiar Institution" and as Dr. Joy DeGruy teaches the process of healing, Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome by tracing the way that both overt and subtle forms of racism have damaged the collective African-American psyche—harm manifested through poor mental and physical health, family and relationship dysfunction, and self-destructive impulses.

The United States Department of Agriculture, established in 1862, will forever be known as "America's Last Plantation" notwithstanding the current reality at "The People's Department" Administrations change and the official data from the 2012 Census of Agriculture revels the data for all to see... baseline data for Urban Agriculture may be 2017 Census of Agriculture for official data to be applied for inclusion in US Ag policy... Urban America vs. Rural America... mandating hunger.

Two recommendations addressed at the USDA~NASS Partnership Workshop, Kansas City, MO ~ targeted effort to count Urban Agriculture producers from sea to shinning sea and celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Juneteenth utilizing the data from the Census of Agriculture to document progress were well received, follow-up with clear action steps is essential.

October 2014, in San Diego, California the marriage of providing safe, sustainable water to rural villages and urban agriculture production continues to make tangible change, globally.
