On May Day 2014, National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa Mphumzi Maqungo spoke at ILWU Local 10 in San Francisco. He thanked the local union members for their support against the apartheid regime by refusing to unload cargo from apartheid South Africa. He also reported on the struggles in South Africa including the move by NUMSA for the formation of an independent worker's party.
