An Evening of Solidarity for Marie Mason & Women in Prison

Marie Mason is a long-time environmental and labor movement activist and the loving mother of two. On February 5, 2009, she was sentenced to almost 22 years in prison for actions in which no one was injured. Marie was transferred in 2010 from a medium-security prison to the high-security, tightly restricted unit of the notorious FMC Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas. She received no explanation for this transfer.

It is believed that FMC Carswell is being used in part as a Communications Management Unit (CMU) for women – a prison inside a prison in which inmate communications are highly restricted and heavily scrutinized. Although the Bureau of Prisons classifies FMC Carswell as a special medical unit, is it widely reported that the inmates receive substandard or little to no medical treatment and live in highly stressful conditions. Marie and the other women at FMC Carswell deserve better.
