Near Term Extinction
with David Oertel
David’s talk will be about extinction. It is not a lecture; subjects will be introduced and then attendees will be encouraged to optionally contribute factual information or speak to their emotional reactions to the subjects. Subjects include: the five prior mass extinction events, Peter Ward’s geophysical changes related to mass extinction, Goldilocks zones, alarming results of recent climate-change assessments, the escalating number and severity of climate change feedbacks (methane release in particular), biosphere threats to human habitability, and more. This is not a debate about near term extinction — people should be open to discussing the prospect of human extinction within a few decades.
$5 donations are requested
Humanist Hall is wheelchair accessible around the corner at 411 28th Street
