UC Santa Cruz Students Distribute Fake Eviction Notices on Campus
Santa Cruz, CA–
Members of the UC Santa Cruz Committee for Justice in Palestine (UCSC CJP) distributed fake eviction notices to students in dormitories on Tuesday evening. The notices, meant to raise awareness of the plight faced by Palestinian Bedouins in Israel, also notified students that a rally in support of Palestinian Bedouins facing displacement will take place on December 4th at the Quarry Plaza, noon-4pm.
Palestinian Bedouins and the Prawer Plan
The Prawer-Begin plan, passed on June 24, 2013, by the Israeli Legislative Branch (the Knesset), will result in the destruction of more than 35 “unrecognized” villages in the Naqab desert in southern Israel and the forced expulsion and confinement of more than 30,000 people. This plan—the latest attempt to destroy Bedouin villages that have stood for generations—is part of a long history of government efforts to displace Bedouin families in order to build new Israeli towns.
UCSC CJP Condemns the Forced Displacement of Palestinian BedouinsIn protesting this policy, UCSC SJP condemns the actions of the Israeli state. We do so as students whose university’s financial ties with Israel make us complicit in the state’s actions; as American citizens whose taxes support Israel’s military; and as individuals who support the right of all humans to live in peace and dignity.
