Federal Government In Bay Area - Status Open
By Lynda Carson - October 17, 2013
The Federal Government reopens for business today in the Bay Area, across the nation, and around the world after a 16-day Federal Government shutdown occurred due to the on-going feud over the federal budget.
Around 900,000 federal employees are being ordered back to work in the Bay Area and across the nation today after the extreme right-wing fanatics of the Republican Party and their fascist Tea Party allies forced a government shutdown to take place during the past 16-days.
The government shutdown affected federal employees and businesses in Oakland, San Francisco, and other Bay Area cities, including nearby tourist destinations such as Alcatraz Island, and Yosemite.
A short term deal (continuing resolution) negotiated by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell funds the government at Republican-backed (sequestration) spending levels through Jan. 15, 2014, and suspends the debt limit through Feb. 7. 2014.
The short term deal that was signed into law on October 16, 2013 by President Barack Obama is setting up the federal government for another possible shutdown in the next three to four months if the Democrats and Republicans fail to pass a federal budget, or another continuing resolution to fund the federal government.
In a message sent out today from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) regarding the Federal Government, the current status is OPEN.
