The Stay Away squat has been evicted.
The Stay Away has been evicted. At approximately 10:00 a.m. Pacific time, 70 heavily armed Sheriff's Deputies entered through adjacent properties (apparently without consent of these people) and raided the Stay Away. Two members of the house were arrested and still remain in Santa Rita County Jail awaiting charges. Initially members of the Stay Away were forced out of the house at the gun points of AR-15s and were left without their personal belongings that the Police forced those in the house to leave behind. Some members didn't even have shoes on, and were forced into the streets with no food for themselves or the three dogs. The personal belongings of the Stay Away were later retrieved when workers from the clean up crew let people retrieve their belongings. We are planning demonstrations against REO Homes, and as is always the case in Oakland, against the police state for this eviction of one of Oakland's epic squats.
