Defend City College of San Francisco!
March to Dept Of Education in Response to Accreditation Ruling.
By July 8 the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) will announce a new accreditation status for City College of SF. City College depends on accreditation to receive federal and state funding. Anything less than full accreditation is unacceptable as it will further harm our students. We demand that the DOE investigate ACCJC and revoke their authority!
Background: In July 2012, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) issued an unwarranted sanction of “show cause” to City College of San Francisco. This was one step away from forcing the college to shut down, despite the fact that CCSF has excellent educational programs and is considered one of the top community colleges in the nation.
In the past year the threat of closure has been used to force cuts in student programs, impose non-negotiated salary cuts to faculty and lay-off dozens of classified staff. This strategy to downsize and privatize public education has done great harm to CCSF students who are largely people of color, immigrants and working-class for whom CCSF is a lifeline.
