The Stop Mass Incarceration Network presents A Report Back from Sanford, Florida with Cephus Johnson, Oscar Grant's Uncle, and An Evening of Solidarity with the California Prisoner Hunger Strike.

Supporting the California prisoners' hunger strike and fighting for justice for Trayvon Martin are linked together as the needed resistance to stop the slow genocide of mass incarceration and all of its consequences, such as stop-and-frisk, and rampant police murders of innocents. We must take up the challenge and not back down!

Cephus Johnson will report back from the opening of jury selection in the murder trial of George Zimmerman. Cephus flew to Sanford Florida as part of a delegation of activists and revolutionaries to talk with the community there and demand justice for Trayvon Martin. presence at the opening of jury selection for the trial of George Zimmerman, the killer of Trayvon Martin. The delegation had a huge impact: dozens of dozens of TV channels, newspapers, and online news sites reported on their presence and quoted their statements and chants.

Speakers (TBA) will also speak about the situation of prisoners at Pelican Bay State Prison in California who intend to launch a nationwide Hunger Strike - against the torture of indefinite long-term solitary confinement - to begin on July 8, 2013. They have also issued a call for unity among people from different racial groups, inside and outside the prisons. People who are locked down in segregation units of this society’s prisons, condemned as the “worst of the worst,” are standing up against injustice, asserting their humanity in the process.

The Stop Mass Incarceration Network (stopmassincarceration.org) will discuss its campaign to build a movement to stop the injustice of mass incarceration and police brutality; and the racially biased policies and practices of the police, the courts and the U.S. legal system; and to support the rights of prisoners and the formerly incarcerated.

This event is a fund raiser to defray costs from the trip to Sanford, and raise funds for the struggle to support the prisoners' upcoming actions. Off-street parking is available.
