"This lovely film chronicles the heroic effort of Oglala Lakota people to reclaim health and spiritual power by swimming from Alcatraz to San Francisco. As daunting as it is for anyone, for land-locked people who had only six days to train, it is an enormous undertaking. The film chronicles not only the event but also the struggle for those living on Pine Ridge Reservation to change their diet and overall health in the face of staggering poverty..."
-- Peter Coyote (Actor and Author)
The Alcatraz/San Francisco swim event is a component of San Francisco-based PATHSTAR’s year-round activities to inspire healthy nutrition and active lifestyle practices in tribal communities. The swim concludes the annual PATHSTAR Alcatraz Swim Week, an intensive, hands-on program that focuses on lifestyle coaching, healthy nutrition education and fitness activities.
The 2013 program will be held October 6-14. For details, please visit http://www.pathstar.org
