"No XL Pipeline" Protest Near Obama Fundraiser on the Peninsula

by Ruth Robertson
President Obama is expected to make a decision by early summer about whether to approve the Keystone XL pipeline. He refused to approve it in 2012, but may not refuse again. The controversial pipeline has sparked strong opposition across the country, with major rallies and peaceful demonstrations in Washington, DC, San Francisco, and many other cities. On April 4 a rally was held to influence President Obama to refuse to approve the pipeline, which would bring crude oil from tar sands in Canada down to oil refineries on the Gulf coast. About 100 people gathered near an Obama fundraising breakfast held in the San Francisco Peninsula city of Atherton.

San Francisco Peninsula residents concerned about climate change held a rally opposing the Keystone XL pipeline on Thursday, April 4, at the corner of Alameda de las Pulgas and Valparaiso Road where the tony towns of Menlo Park and Atherton adjoin.

The purpose of the rally was to influence President Obama to refuse to approve the pipeline, which would bring crude oil from tar sands in Canada down to oil refineries on the Gulf coast. The President was at a fundraiser in a private residence near that intersection from about 9am this morning.

The controversial pipeline has sparked strong opposition across the country, with major rallies and peaceful demonstrations in Washington, DC, San Francisco, and many other cities across the country on February 17.

Opponents have multiple concerns about the pipeline, the greatest of which is acceleration of climate change due to the large amount of greenhouse gases that would be released into the atmosphere by the process of extracting the heavy-grade oil from the tar sands.

The first Industrial Revolution motivated by coal, gas, oil, and atomic energy is destroying the planets livability by polluting and poisoning the ecological, organic balances of the web-of-life. Trudeau Senior pushed the Eastern Federal Government of Canada to initiate the Alberta Tar Sands Project all done by Ottawa at the expense and threat to the air, land, and water and in direct violation of the Canadian Law to make sure to get collective agree of the First Nations before pushing any projects upon the first nations lands.

The 1982 Canadian Constitution forbids any development without prior consultation and approval from the First Nations. This project is literally burning out the oxygen in the atmosphere at an ever increasing rate, and the oxygen has already been burned out to carbon-dioxide (which we cannot live on) by the burning of fossil fuels throughout the globe by 38-40%.

So much is this so that mother nature cannot replace the oxygen any more and a plus rate, which means that the oxygen is disappearing from the atmosphere. Science must be put to work to turn this process around, and the most needed way is to RETOOL THE ENTIRE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION TO THE ORGANIC RE-NEWABLES such as wind, tidal, and solar power which transforms to electricity and is more power than can be used by all societies in all countries on the planet.

That would allow the ecological green revolution to restore the oxygen again in a plus de position and allow the return of a fully functioning system of air with full oxygen necessity for the air breathing plants, animals and peoples. It can be done, it must be done!!

If the present system is allowed to continue for any length of time, and the Alberta Tar Sands Pipelines to Texas and the Kinder Morgan pipeline in Canada is allowed to the Canadian West Coast there will be in existence a Carbon Bomb that potentially could move the present fail-safe mode of societies on the planet from fail-safe mode to No Return Mode.

It is that dangerous and the opposition to this fail-fail Kamakazi Project must increase throughout the world and in every country till we can and will stop it. Pollution and suicide policies against nature, for private profits must end, and the organic commune be allowed to heal the web-of-life again for sustainable living.

Harper's response has been to sabotage the opposition by a unjust austerity program of firing scientists, cutting EI - Employment Insurance, firing the Public Sector Unions and generally leading and ideological assault against the Canadian working classes. He tries to make this just a bread and butter issue.

He cancelled the Canadian Membership in Kyoto Accords, told COP 15 that all the envirnmental laws would be cancelled and proceeded to do so removing and condemning any fines against corporations that pollute etc.

All the while lying that the protesters were a drag against he national economy which he personally has passed laws against them if they proceed. He uses the state forces in a reactionary way that inhibits and criminalizes all dissent against the destruction of the first nations treaties, and the entire Canadian organic balances of life.

Defeat the present Harper regime politically, by opposing this horrendous Tar Sands Project, our very lives depend on it. Workers of the world unite!! End pollution wars, not endless wars for more and more pollution. Ye yet have a world to win!!
