MCCLA presents The Bernal Hill Players “Neighborhoods of Mexico City”
Friday, April 26 / 8:00 pm / $15 General / $12 Students & Seniors
After the excitement of creating and performing a program of newly commissioned works based on the theme of “Neighborhoods of San Francisco” between 2010-2011, the Bernal Hill Players are now turning to the theme of “Neighborhoods of Mexico City”. For their 2012-2013 season they will be joined by guest cellist Jessica Ivry in presenting two world premieres based on this theme, by prominent Mexican composers Eduardo Gamboa and Guillermo Galindo. In addition to the two world premieres, the Bernal Hill Players will perform a diverse collection of pieces from Mexico and South America, bursting with infectious Latin rhythms and melodies, and ranging from avant-garde to traditional styles:
Arturo Márquez: Zarabandeo
Astor Piazzolla: Milonga del Angel, Muerte del Angel
Joaquin Nin-Culmell: Quinteto
Heitor Villa Lobos: Choros No. 2
Agustin Lara: Granada
Mexican folksong: La Llorona
