String Quake: Amelia Romano: Electric Harp, Misha Khalikulov: Cello, Josh Mellinger: Percussion
Ensemble A Contratiempo: Angel Tolosa Moreno: Venezuelan Harpist, Luis Tolosa: Cuatro Venezolano, Ezequiel Lopez: Bajo (bass)
Performing on traditionally ‘classical’ instruments, StringQuake, takes their instruments in new directions. Amelia Romano on electric lever harp and Misha Khalikulov on carbon fiber cello, experiment with unusual keys, fiery time signatures, and improvisation to create a sound uniquely their own. Ensemble el Contratiempo from Caracas, Venezuela, play traditional folkloric music. The trio features Angel Tolosa on the "arpa llanera" (harp of the plains), accompanied by bass and cuatro (small folkloric guitar). Ensemble El Contratiempo draw inspiration from the folkloric traditions of their land, yet take the music in new and exciting ways through the realms of jazz, bossa nova and other world musical styles. Don't miss this great trio in concert.
