With the passage of national healthcare legislation (the Affordable Care Act), 2013 presents both political challenges and opportunities for movement growth. Under the best case scenario, the Affordable Care Act will still leave 3 million Californians uninsured. The ACA will also deliver different levels of care to different classes of people and the insurance industry will still be stealing 20 billion dollars from Californians.
Both nationally and in California we are working to pass legislation that would deliver healthcare to everyone and exclude the insurance industry.
Come learn why single payer healthcare is so important. And enjoy a great meal.
Speakers include:
Ben Day - National Organizing Director for Healthcare Now. Ben is past director of MassCare, Massachusetts’s state advocacy organization.
Mike Casey - President of Local 2 UNITE HERE. Local 2 represents 12,000 hotel workers in San Francisco.
Jodi Reid - Executive Director of the California Alliance for Retired Seniors.
Roxanne Sanchez - President of Service Employees International Union 1021. SEIU 1021 represents 54,000 workers in Northern California.
