On Sat. Nov. 24, ATA Gallery’s OTHER CINEMA welcomes to San Francisco our longtime microcinema accomplice Matt McCormick, who personally introduces the Cali premiere of his 70-min. experimental travelog, The Great Northwest. Fifty years after four Seattle women undertook a 3,200 mile road-trip through 4 Northwest states, McCormick by happy chance discovered their scrapbook in a thrift store. He set out on the road, following their route as precisely as possible. His patient observations constitute a lyrical time-capsule, revealing how the landscape, architecture, and culture of the Northwest has changed over the past half-century.
ALSO: Robert Machoian and Rodrigo Ojeda-Beck present their 433 Pictures project, American Nobodies, a half-hr. suite of poetic miniatures, finding complexity and meaning in small moments and overlooked details. Doors at 8:00; showtime is 8:30 PM. Admission is $6.
